SOUTHINGTON – The Southington Education Foundation (SEF)'s Trivia Bee returns this year with Halloween-themed trivia Oct. 20 at Kinsmen Brewing Company.

After being canceled last year, the popular community trivia event is coming back at a new location, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Kinsmen Brewing Company at 409 Canal Street. Jerry Belanger, who co-chairs the Trivia Bee with Paula Knight, said this year the SEF is "stepping up their game."

"Ryan the DJ will be our Bee Master with a fun-filled Halloween-themed trivia contest," he said. "You can play as a team or individually. Come dressed for Halloween and compete for Best Costume, or just come as you are. We'll also have raffles, prizes and other surprises."

Belanger added Kinsmen will have hand-crafted beers and an in-house restaurant, "Sauced," serving up thin-crust pizzas, salads and appetizers during the event.

Belanger thanked the brewery for their support of the fundraiser.

"Kinsmen supports local artists, musicians, farms and businesses alike," he said. "The brewery is a family friendly establishment and allows supervised children up until 9 p.m."

Belanger said the Trivia Bee, which was previously held at Southington High School, is one of the SEF's major fundraisers. It has raised thousands of dollars in past years, which is then used to fund grants and programs to benefit Southington children.

"The Trivia Bee brings together individuals and teams from in and around town to raise funds for a charitable cause while at the same time providing an evening of fun," he said.

The Southington Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides educational grants and program funding to educators in the Southington Public schools. Since 2009, the Southington Education Foundation has awarded more than $250,000 in scholarships and grants to benefits students from preschool to senior year of high school

Tickets to the Trivia Bee are $25 per person. Tickets include trivia and a drink ticket.
