SOUTHINGTON - A New Britain man has been accused of having sex with a preteen girl at a Southington motel.

Carlos Padilla, 21, faces two counts each of first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

Police said Wednesday that Padilla was charged earlier this month and held on $250,000 bond. His case is being heard in New Britain Superior Court, where he was scheduled to appear on Wednesday.

According to online court records, Padilla’s case has been marked down for a jury trial.

Police said the investigation stemmed from incidents in August and September 2018 at a Southington motel. According to police, Padilla had sex with a 12-year-old girl.

The allegations were reported to police in October. Authorities were able to acquire a warrant for Padilla’s arrest. The warrant has been ordered sealed by a judge.

Police said Padilla, when he was charged in the alleged sexual assaults, was being held in custody in connection with other pending cases. According to court records, he has two other cases pending in which he faces charges of first-degree sexual assault, illegal sexual contact and risk of injury to a minor. Those are both being prosecuted in New Britain court.
