Fire causes heavy damage at Southington Italian restaurant

SOUTHINGTON - A Tuesday evening fire is expected to keep an Italian restaurant closed for some time. 

According to the Fire Department, firefighters responded to the fire at Mamma Mia, 1765 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, around 7:15 p.m. Fire had been reported coming from a kitchen vent, with heavy smoke on the second floor of the building.

The fire took about an hour to put out. Crews spent time searching for small pockets of fire throughout the building. 

No injuries were reported.

The fire caused heavy damage to the interior.

The fire is being investigated by the local and state fire marshals, according to the Fire Department.
