Edward Joseph Mroz, 90, formerly of New Britain, passed away on May 17 at Brookdale Senior Living in Deland, Fla. Edward was born on Nov. 3, 1928, in New London, Conn., to the late Franciszek “Frank” and Bronislawa “Blanche” (Parda) Mroz. After attending trade school in New London, he enlisted in the Army in 1950 during the Korean War. Edward was married in 1953 to the late Marie (Janik) Mroz at Holy Cross Church. A few years later, he and his wife moved to New Britain, where they raised their children. Edward was a senior designer with Electric Boat in Groton, where he worked for 42 years at the time of his retirement in 1993.
He enjoyed taking his family on camping vacations throughout New England especially the Kancamagus Highway area in New Hampshire, playing golf and especially playing poker with his family. He is survived by three daughters, Theresa Perry of Deland, Fla., Barbara Fackelman (David) of Mt. Dora, Fla., and Karen Neitzey (Mitch) of Bowie, Md. He is also survived by grandchildren, Elizabeth Fanning, William, and Derek Perry, Drew, Ryan, and Cari Neitzey; and great-granddaughters, Kaylee and Zoey Fanning. In addition, he is survived by his twin sister, Jerry Williams, and sister, Mary Nye. Edward is also predeceased by sisters, Laura Prokop, and Wanda Pajak.
Funeral services will begin Friday, May 24, at 9 a.m. in the New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Church in New Britain, Conn.
