ROUNDUP: Newington baseball falls to Wethersfield at home in regular season finale

NEWINGTON - Despite roping seven hits, the Newington baseball team fell 5-1 to Wethersfield on Thursday at home.

The Indians (14-6) were led on offense by Cooper Johnson (2-for-2 with a double), but winning pitcher Roan Moran and senior Mark Bagdasarian (2-for-3 with a double) paved the way for an Eagles (16-4) victory.

Jack Kelley took the loss for Newington.


Hall 199, Newington 225, Canton 261: Newington’s Maddie Massaro-Cook carded a 46, finishing just one stroke behind match medalist Carolyn Alquist (45) of Hall.

Leah Tofeldt (55), Tori Tolisano (57) and Raechel Bouchard (67) also contributed for the Indians (8-10).

Newington is now 8-8 in the CCC and 6-2 in the CCC South.


Plainville 184, New Britain 210: Jacob Deschaine shot a 40 at the par-35 Hawks Landing course in Southing to capture medalist honors. Alan Nilson (45), Mike Melninkaitis (46) and Nico Fasold (53) paced the winning effort for the Blue Devils (10-6, 10-4 CCC).

The Hurricanes (8-6-1, 8-5-1 CCC) were led by Arthur Bell (48), Royce Wasik (52), Brandon Carlina (55) and Manny Benitez (55).
