To the Editor,

My wife and I enjoy live theater and attend it often. The production of “Memphis” at the Connecticut Theatre Company at the Repertory Theatre venue on Norden Street in New Britain is a must see. It truly compares well in quality with professional productions we have seen in Connecticut and New York. The singing and acting are superb, (wonderful harmonizing), the dances are spectacular. The show deals with the introduction of traditionally black music into society as a whole, beginning in 1951 with the birth of modern “Rock and Roll”. It packs a strong message you will not forget. While the orchestra is pre-recorded, the sound system is so good you will think it is live. Actually, even with a live orchestra, what you often hear is through a sound system anyway, especially when the orchestra is out of site. How this volunteer theater attracts such talent is astounding. All cast members are great! The show deserves a large audience. The CTC and the former NB Rep are New Britain treasures, dating back to 1945. Hopefully, more theater goers will say: “Have you discovered New Britain?” See “Memphis” and you will say so too.
