GROTON -- Two goals from Jillian Yezierski led the Gladiators to its first win of the season on Wednesday in its 5-2 win over Grasso Tech.
Dezarya Trusty and Tomoya Bennett each notched a goal and assist while Selyah Rivera (goal) and Sadie Clark (assist) also recorded points.
In goal, Arianna White made three saves.
Goodwin Tech will travel to Wolcott Tech on Friday at 3:45 p.m.
Sheapaug Valley 3, Terryville 2: Two goals was not enough for the Kangaroos on Wednesday as they were bested by Shepaug Valley. Senior Zoe Zappone and freshman Megan Hudson netted the scores for Terryville while senior Ally Drake finished with six saves in goal.
Shepaug Valley senior Marissa Perachi posted two goals on the Kangaroos along with one goal from senior Annie Kuck. These two teams will meet again Oct. 19 at Shepaug Valley. Up next for Terryville, however, is a home contest against Wamogo on Thursday.
Innovation 2, Classical Magnet 1: The Ravens earned their first win of the season Wednesday with a comeback win over Classical Magnet. After allowing a goal to Classical in the first half, senior captain Alice Bidoae netted two goals in the second half to put Innovation in front.
Goalkeeper Te’ijah Roberts finished with seven saves, continue what head coach Christian Irizarry called “breakout years” for Roberts and Bidoae. Roberts has 60 saves on the season and Bidoae scored five of the Ravens’ eight goals so far.
Up next for Innovation will be a home game against Civic Leadership on Friday at 3:45.
Innovation 3, Civic Leadership 2: The Ravens made a resounding comeback Wednesday, defeating Civic Leadership after losing the first two sets of the match. After scoring 15 points in each of the first two sets, Innovation turns its play around and won the next three to improve its record to 3-1 on the season.
Junior Patrice Brought led the Ravens offensive attack with 14 kills while junior Ciara Cardona had 12 assists. Innovation will face Aerospace on Friday in its next match.
Goodwin Tech 3, Gilbert 1: The Gladiators won its third in a row with a four-set victory on Wednesday.
Goodwin Tech won the first two sets, 25-10, before Gilbert took the third set, 25-27. The Gladiators responded with a 25-21 victory in the fourth set to improve to 5-2.
Gabby Radin (15 service points, eight aces), Avalise Hernandez (15 service points, five aces), Trinity Chambers (six kills), Javiellie Merle-Gonzalez (12 assists and five digs) all produced for Goodwin Tech.
The Gladiators will visit Terryville on Friday at 5:15 p.m.
Farmington 3, Southington 2: The Blue Knights couldn’t complete the comeback in its loss on Wednesday at home.
Southington dropped the first two sets, 25-11 and 25-15, before roaring back with wins in set three, 25-19, and four, 25-17. However it was the visitors who claimed the decisive fifth set with a 21-19 win.
Brooke Jones (15 kills, five blocks) and Shannon O’Brien (21 assists, seven aces) paced the visitors.
Morgan Birdsey concluded with 18 kills, four aces and 10 digs, Makenzie Marek slotted 25 digs, and Haley Weiner finished with 47 assists and three aces.
The Blue Knights (4-3) will play the John Jay School on Saturday at 8 a.m.
