AVON - Police in Avon have identified the victim of a fatal rollover Friday night as a Bristol resident who served as a medic.

Steven Ouellette, 41, was killed around 7:20 p.m. when the 2002 Dodge Durango he was driving went over the guardrail on 691 Waterville Road and down a steep embankment, according to police. The vehicle settled near a wooded line.

When first responders got to the crash, no one was inside the vehicle.

Ouellette was found nearby in a wooded area. He had suffered severe head and upper body trauma, and was taken to the UConn Medical Center in Farmington, where he was pronounced dead.

Ouellette served as a medic in Bristol. The IAEP Local R1-701 has posted a tribute to the 41-year-old to its Facebook page.

“It is with a heavy heart we say goodbye to one of our own,” the post said. “Meatball, we thank you for all of the special memories we hold and we will never forget what an important part of BHEMS you were. Rest easy, Steve.”

A memorial is being held for Ouellette Thursday at 6 p.m. at Sporty’s Café, at 2 Judd St.
