NEWINGTON – A man was shot and wounded at Plaza Azteca, 3260 Berlin Turnpike early Tuesday morning, according to police.

Police received a call for a large brawl in the parking lot of the restaurant around 1 a.m. Tuesday and the caller reported that a shot was fired, Newington police posted on its Facebook page. The caller told police he did not see anyone with a weapon.

Police arrived at the location and found a large number of vehicles leaving the area but no victims were identified, police said. An investigation was started by police as detectives arrived at the scene.

About 30 minutes later, Newington police were notified by Waterbury Police that a gunshot victim was being treated at Waterbury Hospital and the victim said he was shot at the restaurant.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Detective L. DeSimone at 860-594-6239.

In April, four people were injured, including two people who were stabbed, after a brawl of about 10 people broke out in the restaurant’s parking lot around 2 a.m. Police have not released any new information from that incident.
